Waukegan History Museum at the Carnegie

with Harboe Architects, PC

Designed by the firm Patton and Miller and completed in 1903, the Waukegan Public Library sat vacant for approximately 60 years. After a 2018 study to rehabilitate the building for the Waukegan Park District and the Waukegan Historical Society, Harboe Architects developed construction documents to restore the building and construct an addition. The restoration work included the exterior limestone, windows and doors, interior plaster, millwork and trim, and paint finishes. New MEP systems were included and carefully integrated to facilitate the building’s new use as a museum and research library.
