Vernacular design strategies are incorporated in a speculative design proposal for a single-family house on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The underlying design theory seeks to acknowledge the reality of building, respond to place and material capabilities, consider the implications of the weather, and leverage the lessons from vernacular design to create a building that can last.
